Leaving Crescent City

On January 18th, Stephen and I flew back to Crescent City to pack up the house and ship our belongings.  We were surprised to actually make it into Crescent City because there was a huge coastal storm with 40-50 knot winds.  It was a wee bit bumpy coming in for the landing but we made it and as we left the airport I heard a little voice in the back of my mind say, "Ready, Set, GO!"

We had a tremendous amount to accomplish in 48 hours we had in Crescent City.  In addition to packing the entire house and repairing the kitchen sink I had several dear friends I wanted to have a chance to say one last goodbye to.  Fortunately my body shifted to west coast time at night which meant I was staying up until 10pm PST but when morning came around I was back on east coast time and up at 6am EST (3am PST!).  This was exhausting but it worked out well because when the movers showed up in their big "Mayflower" truck on Friday morning we were ready!

It wasn't a particularly fun trip... it was almost as if there was a plan to make it so we wouldn't miss Crescent City at all.  It rained over 6 inches in the first 36 hours we were there and the winds were so strong that they blew one of our trees over in the back yard!  This meant that Stephen spent several hours wrestling the tree back into a standing position, all the while getting blasted with rain and wind.  Argh.  Anyway, it all worked out and I had a chance to say goodbye to a few last friends, the house was empty and we made it up to Medford in time to meet the gentleman who was shipping Stephen's car across the country.   63 hours after we touched down in Crescent City we were taking off from Medford one last time!

Crescent City will always hold some wonderful memories in my heart.  It was our first home.  Where Miles grew up.  Where Ian and Brendan were born and where we transformed from resident to attending physicians.  Someday, I'm not sure when, we will head back to walk on the beach where I walked so many miles with both boys in my belly and then, eventually on my back all the while Miles was running along ahead, carrying a piece of driftwood in his mouth.

Goodbye Crescent City!
