Brendan turned 15 months last week and is changing by the day. He continues to be a happy little guy who is a total Mama's boy. He is fine once I'm out of sight (out of sight, out of mind) but when he knows I'm near and not actually in contact with him he lets me know with a howl. I joke about my invisible fence... If I go beyond a certain radius I am informed by little Mr Brendan! I'm not surprised given the fact that I've been with him pretty much 24/7 for the past 7 months. I guess I don't have to worry about not doing enough "attachment parenting!"
He is developing quite the personality. He loves to make faces to see how someone will respond. My favorite is a scowl he does that just cracks me up. He has started to call people by name. He's got Mama, Dada and Papa down and is pretty proud of himself when he points at you, calls your name and gets a response. He also is very definitive about his likes and dislikes. When he doesn't want something he shakes his head vigorously or swats it away. He is particularly specific about his food preferences... He's widening his repertoire but I still can't sneak eggs or cheese into him... If I try to add a tiny bit in something else he loves he figures it out and out it all comes! Little bugger!
Although he started walking about two weeks ago (he was taking 5 or so steps with confidence) he quickly decided that crawling was easier and up until today I hadn't seen him take more than a step or two. Today however I saw him take 5-6 steps several times so perhaps he's reconsidering. I'll admit that I'm anxious for him to start walking... My hip is getting tired carrying 25# around!
The experts say that when one area of development is leaping forward the other areas are often put on hold. I have to believe them because in the past two weeks Brendan stopped walking but started talking! He had some words and signs before this but now he is actively pointing at things and naming them. His vocabulary includes: clock, apple, banana, ball, boat, cracker (a general term for all food), meow (for cat), boo (for cow), ssssss (for snake), and of course... Light. That's his all time favorite word. He continues to use lots of signs, my favorite is his sign for dog which involves sticking his tongue out. He makes me smile every time he does it! I'm exited about his increasing ability to communicate it makes our time together so much more fun and entertaining.
It's amazing how fast he changes... Although I watched Ian do all of these things I am just as enthralled seeing Brendan make milestones. Children truly are amazing and such an incredible gift!
