Dirt!

For my birthday my dear friend Arwen gave me a book by Barbara Kingsolver called, "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle." It's about a family that takes on the challenge of consuming only locally produced food for a year. It has had a big impact on my thoughts about feeding our family and what is truly healthy. It also prompted me to get some dirt and plants to start a small raised garden in a kiddie pool. Unlike my sister, I have a brown thumb and have a hard time keeping even house plants alive so we will see what comes of my little garden experiment. But even if it's a total failure the boys had a blast digging in the dirt and helping me plant the vegetables. Brendan was consuming the dirt by the handful and at one point I saw Ian 3/4 of the way into the soil bag with only his feet hanging out. These boys are definitely NOT afraid to get dirty!
