Swimming in the Smith River

We had a beautiful sunny day and headed up to the Smith River when my Mom was here visiting.  The water was super cold but Ian went in anyway (well, he went in completely once and then realized that perhaps that wasn't the smartest idea).  Stephen and I braved the rope swing in a wet suit and Brendan enjoyed hanging on the beach in the shade with Grammy.

As well all know, Ian loves the water and is a little fish.  But he also LOVES sand and is a little sand mite.  He has no qualms about getting sandy and was rolling around in the sand all morning long.  He actually is probably the smartest one in the group because he realized that the sand was super warm and felt really good after being in the cold stream.  The only glitch in this is that it is rather challenging to get the sand out of his hair at tubby time!

Can you see the rope hanging on the left hand side of the bridge?
Amazing!  And Super Fun!
On a different walk (the Nickerson Ranch Trail in the Redwoods) Stephen and I enjoyed a quick dip in the stream...
