Papa's Visit!

Three weeks ago I had to return to work and to make the transition easier on us my parents volunteered to come out and watch the boys for two weeks.  Mom (Grammy) was still working so Papa came first.  He and the boys had a wonderful time together.  Ian thought it was super cool that Papa bunked in his room with him (Stephen was on-call for several nights so my Dad volunteered to sleep in Ian's room so that Stephen and his pager could be in the guest room where he wouldn't wake Brendan and me).  I never got a picture but we put Ian on an inflatable mattress, my Dad on the twin and moved Brendan's crib into the master bedroom (he is still sleeping in the co-sleeper though).

When Dad arrived it was after a crazy two day affair.  I think he did something to really tick-off the travel gods because for the second time in a row he was significantly delayed in Chicago causing him to miss his flight from Denver to Medford.  He ended up spending the night in Denver and was booked on a flight to San Francisco and then up to Arcata.... well, the San Francisco flight was cancelled so they re-re-booked him on a later flight into Medford.  Oh my!!!  All I could think was that this was the last time he would be making this crazy trip to Crescent City.  It actually took him longer to get here than it took for him to get to Djedjeopalegnoa, the village in Africa where I lived when I was in the PeaceCorps.  We were all thrilled to see him arrive, especially little Ian.  Papa had peppered his suitcase with little gifts for Ian and encouraged him to "find" them.  It was fun watching Ian dismantle his suitcase!
Brendan loved seeing his Papa again...

I'm not sure if I approve of what they did when I wasn't around but I guess what "Mommy doesn't know won't hurt her!"

We loved having Dad come stay with us again.  He has spent 5 of Brendan's first 12 weeks of life with him.  Not bad considering how challenging it is to get from Gilford to Crescent City.  The boys had a blast and it was wonderful having the help during my first week back at work.

You're probably wondering, "What about Grammy?!?"  Well,  she was home finishing up her school year but couldn't wait for her chance to come too...  stay posted!
