December 2013 has been amazing! We got a huge storm at the beginning of the month with about 14" of snow. Just a few days later we got dumped on again. This time it was about a foot of snow. We played as much as possible... Throwing snowballs and sliding down the steps off the back porch (we don't have a hill on our property but this worked great!). And then during Christmas week we got hit with a huge ice storm that lasted three days. The ice took out lots of power lines and some people were without power for nearly a week. We were lucky though because we never lost power (but we are thinking about getting a generator...) The ice was gorgeous. Every branch of every tree was encased in ice and the sun shining on the icy branches on Christmas Day made everything look magical. This was followed by another four inches of light snow on the day after Christmas - making for some of the most spectacular winter scenes I have ever seen! The dramatic weather has made us appreciate our new home even more. It is always toasty warm inside. The radiant floor heat is the perfect solution to my frugal New England tendencies which prompt me to turn the heat down if we are asleep or not around. This approach doesn't work because it takes hours to increase or decrease the heat by even a few degrees so we must leave it set at 68 degrees at all times. I'll admit that it feels good to always be warm ;)
