Gardens and Basements

We had fun with our little "experimental" garden this summer.  It was fun to plan a few seeds and see what we could learn about growing vegetables in Maine.  Here are the key points we learned:

1.  Plant earlier... we would have had lots and lots more produce if we had planted in May rather than late June.
2.  You only need a few tomato seeds...  Ian was in charge of planting the tomato seeds and we ended up with LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of tomatoes!
3.  Broccoli takes a long time to grow.

I can't wait to plant a bigger garden next year next to our new house.  It was so fun to see the boys digging in the dirt and trying the vegetables that they grew.  Speaking of our new house, they have started building!  The house itself is being constructed at the factory and they have been working at the site to put in the basement/foundation.  It's been great fun to see our home start to take shape.  I can't wait for the day when they bring it and put it all together!  Stephen and I were out at the property a week ago and he got a chance to operate the huge excavator.  He truly looked like a little kid in all of his glory.
