We had a wonderful trip to Watkins Glen, NY last weekend. Stephen's brother and Sister-in-law, Tom and Nancy were celebrating their son James' marriage to Becca. Much of Stephen's family made the trip and we had a wonderful time visiting with them all. We brought the "Taj" (our excessively big tent) and set it up at their family campsite on Seneca Lake. It was a perfect spot for our little ones. They spent their days covered in dirt with periodic trips down to the lake for a swim/rinse. Ian loved every minute of the trip! He swam until he was so cold his teeth were chattering, he played for hours at the playground adjacent to the campsite, he ate marshmallows until he was covered in a sticky mess, he loved all the love and attention he received from his cousins and aunts/uncles and he totally loved sleeping in the big tent. But most of all he loved jumping off the dock into the lake. It was a rather high dock, at least 3 feet off the water, but he had no fear and jumped in... Several hundred times! It was so much fun seeing him so blissfully happy.
Brendan also enjoyed the trip and ate enough sand and dirt to fill his diaper! He was relaxed and happy despite the long trip and major changes in his world around him. He spent tons of time in his cousins' and aunties' arms practiced walking all over the campsite. He also LOVED the lake and would cry when we would get out. He is like Ian in that he has no fear of the water which is awesome because I think it will make learning to swim so much easier. He has started to put his face under water and even uses the "puddle jumper" life jacket that I originally purchased for Ian (it's like a combination of arm floaties with a strip of flotation that crosses the front of his chest. It's cool because it gives him a little independence in the water and a chance to start feeling how his body floats. Don't worry, I'm obviously never more than 6 inches away!).
It was really fun having a chance to see Stephen's family again, many of whom we had not seen since 2005. We had quite a bit of time with Tom and Nancy and their kids (including Becca, their new daughter-in-law... A super cool gal!) as well as Janet, her daughter Christina and soon to be son-in-law Stephen. Their wedding is planned for June 2013... The next family reunion!

The first campfire Ian helped build...

Sparklers!

Marshmallows!

Stickiness!
