How do I describe three year old Brendan? It depends on the day because Brendan seems to make huge leaps developmentally.... Sometimes in a single day. Brendan continues to be incredibly sensitive and considerate. He tells me he loves me dozens of times a day and has been branching out to telling Ian and Daddy how much he loves them too. I call him my love bug because he's always sharing his love with those around him.
He continues to love to play with Ian and is a very cooperative little brother, usually content play whatever role Ian assigns him in their imaginative play. Brendan is usually the dog and Ian's the owner. Or Brendan's the boy and Ian's the daddy and they've gone camping, or swimming or on some other adventure.
Developmentally he surprises me all of the time. For example, we were riding up the chairlift and he looked down at one of the lift poles that had a 10 on it and declared, "TEN." Or I asked him what time it was the other day (he continues to love clocks) and he correctly told me "two o'clock!" He's not always consistent... I wouldn't go so far as saying he knows how to tell time or knows double digit numbers beyond 10 but he has these moments that make me wonder about what that little brain is doing in there. I love having two children because you see the differences which helps you realize how amazing each of them are in their own unique ways.
Brendan continues to be adventurous... I don't think he has much of an option in this family! But because of having an older rather than younger brother he's being introduced to things much earlier such as skiing and rock climbing and swimming. He's quite athletic and has little to no fear when trying out new activities. He was able to keep up with all of us for five hours when we were skiing one day... I find myself constantly reminding myself that he's just barely three, it's easy to forget that this adventurous, spirited, caring, sensitive, loving little soul has only been around the sun three times!
