Brendan turned 6 months on September 18th. We were with Grammy and Papa and Mimi which was super fun. Brendan has become an incredibly happy, easy-going little one. He greets me with a huge smile and flapping of his arms and legs every morning when I go to pick him up from his crib and he seems to think that life is pretty grand in general. He is also finding his voice! In addition to the huge smiles he has a wide assortment of sounds he is making. Perhaps the most notable is his "He-Man" groan. It's a deep, ARGHHH! that you might expect if you saw a huge bodybuilder lifting a 300# weight. Sometimes it's when he wants something or is getting tired but often it's just to remind us that he is there! He also is really starting to babble. He's doing much more than the coos and grunts he used to make, now he's doing a lot of babbaba or mamama... But perhaps my favorite Brendan sounds are the "BBuuuhhhs" It's hard to describe his sounds in writing but if you put your lips together and start to say Bu-ddy but leave off the "ddy" and elongate the "Bu...." that's what Brendan likes to say.
On the day before we flew to Florida he perfected blowing rasberries. Which meant he practiced these while he was on my lap for the entire flight! I couldn't help but laugh at how much saliva he managed to spray all over me during the flight. I was just glad it was spit and not poo! He did great on the flights and, other than wanting to snuggle with Mommy at night and nurse every few hours, he was a great little traveler as well.
He continues to love nursing and really isn't interested in anything else. He will suck on pieces of fruit put in the little mesh bags I have for him but that's about it. I keep trying to introduce purees but he's more interested in playing with the spoon than actually opening his mouth! I can't say I'm too upset since he's quite a mess whenever we do decide to try to eat something!
The biggest milestone that he has reached is that he is now sitting. I love this more than any other milestone because it means that he can sit independently and play. It's also really fun because he can now sit next to Ian on the floor and watch what his older brother is doing and share the toys. It's a bit of a learning process for Ian to realize that he can't just take Brendan's toys away... I'm just waiting for the day when Brendan can grab it back... That's when we're going to hear lots of "MINE!" and probably a bunch of screaming and crying too!
Although he can move around quite a bit when he's on his stomach, we still have a long way to go until he is crawling - this makes me quite happy... I'm not quite ready to have him on the go! Quite honestly I'm having a hard time believing the fact that he's already six months old and I'm not really ready for him to be getting so big so fast. But... I don't have much of a choice in the matter so I just keep snapping pictures and spend as much time as possible with my two precious little ones.
