For New Years weekend we drove up to Fish Lake, a little lake on the way to Crater lake. We rented a tiny, tiny cabin and had a ball in the snow! Ian hadn't seen snow since he was less than a year old so I'm not sure if he remembered it but he definitely enjoyed it! And Miles had the time of his life!!!! I will admit that our first venture out on cross country skis wasn't very successful. Ian started to scream about 15 minutes down the trail and was completely inconsolable. We think his hands got cold but he refused to let me try to warm them up so Stephen carried the skis and empty backpack back while I hauled our little man back down the trail to the warmth of our cabin.
Fortunately, our future outings were much more successful. We bundled him up in so many layers he couldn't move and covered his little hands with three layers of wool socks and plastic bags. I had memories return of a similar setup I wore as a kid. We also bribed him with hit cocoa and it worked! He had a ball flying down the hills on daddy's back and demanding that he go faster up the hills. All in all we were pretty evenly matched... Stephen carrying Ian and me carrying little Sesame. We didn't go far but sure did get a workout!
