Living in the moment

We had a lovely walk in the redwoods yesterday. Stephen and I knew
the time would come when Ian no longer wanted to ride in the backpack
for hours on end. Yesterday was that day. Ian made it very clear
that he wanted to walk on his own which was wonderful (my back enjoyed
the break!). It also was the ultimate lesson in enjoying the journey
and not the destination as Ian stopped about every two steps to pick
up a stick or rock. It was fun to see his little mind so enthralled
with all of the "treasures" of the forest floor. We enjoyed the walk
more than ever... Even if we didn't go very far!
