So, I've never been a big fan of pacifiers. I'm not sure why. It
probably comes from a well meaning lactation consultant i came across
during my medical training. She likely struck the fear of God in me in
regards to all of the adverse effects of pacifier use such as nipple
confusion, increased rates of ear infections and dental problems.
But Ian had been a binky kid since he was four hours old. It took
only that long to realize that this kid needed something to suck on or
we were going to hear about it! I thought I would wean him from the
binky by three months... Yeah right! Then I assumed he would out grow
it by six months... Nope! A year?! Never! He has been pretty good
about only using them at bedtime and during travel but he finally has
gotten me to give in and let him have one when we are outside. How
did he win the binky battle you ask? Simple... He simply starting
putting things that are way more dangerous (and gross!) into his mouth
(rocks, sticks, dirt! A snail!!!) which made me decide that the binky
really isn't all that bad. Esspecially if it's preventing him from
dining on something he's found on the ground! Score one for Ian...
Zero for Mommy!
