The Toy Fleet...

Life has picked up speed again. I'm back to work (part-time) and have been back on call. It's funny, when Ian was born I dreaded the day when I would have to leave him to go back to work. But it actually has been quite nice to get back to my professional life. I find myself enjoying medicine even more than before. I delivered two babies last week which was so much fun and now I can relate so much more to the parents of the children I see in clinic. The best part of my day however is walking in the front door to find Miles, Stephen and a grinning, giggling Ian (who is ecstatic to have his cow back in close proximity!).

It is also fun to have Stephen home with Ian when I'm working. He has always been incredibly supportive, but now he understands how it can sometimes be challenging to spend 10 hours alone with our little guy. When Ian was 2 months old and I was home and Stephen was working full time he kept coming home to find new toys I had borrowed or purchased for Ian. He asked me why Ian needed so many different gadgets - I did my best to explain but Stephen didn't seem to understand. When I came home after my first full day at the office I was tickled to see ALL of the toys/gadgets out in the living room. Stephen had quickly become a believer in all of them! Our living room now looks like a Toys-R-Us superstore...
Each gadget can occupy Ian for anywhere from 30 seconds to 20 minutes. So, if we're lucky we might be able to cook dinner without too many interruptions!

The Johnny-Jump-Up... Ian loves to hang out in this but he seems to enjoy chewing on it more than jumping in it!

The "buzz chair" - Ian has quickly figured out that pulling on the yellow lion results in lights flashing and music playing.

The Exer-saucer... the newest addition to the toy fleet. He's just starting to figure out what all of those things do. It's amazing watching his little brain at work!

Ian right now reminds me of your dad. He is so adorable and already looks so grown up. I really liked this posting about all the gadgets we collect with kids. Every 20 minutes helps!

Enjoy it while it lasts... The worst is around 8 months when they won't sit in them anymore and want to get around all over but are never quick enough to keep themselves happy. And also they find/ eat all of the dust bunnies in your house.

Glad you guys are doing well.
