Welcome!

So, the time has come to start a blog page to share all of our wonderful stories, pictures and videos of our soon to be little one. Up until now I have been able to share the wonderful news of our pregnancy through e-mails but I thought it would be fun to have it all in one place as a chronicle of events. Here is the first ultrasound we took at 6wks and 2days when our little one looked like just a little bean (thus, acquiring the name "Bean")...

Although Bean was measuring just right (8mm from head to rump) we couldn't quite see the heartbeat because it was too early. So, we repeated the ultrasound at 8weeks and 2days and sent out this e-mail...

"Hi! As you all know by now, we saw the heart beat today which was wonderfully special for both of us. And, (s)he's growing! (S)he's more than doubled her length in the past two week - 22 mm long today (that's 0.9 inches Tammy). We could actually tell which end was which and may have even seen some arms and legs.

I've attached the ultrasound picture... Enjoy!

Our Little One's Latest Glamor Shots...

(June 26th, 2008 - 8weeks and 2days)

Here's the full ultrasound picture....

22mm from head to rump!

Perhaps this diagram of another little one at 8 weeks will help you figure out what you're looking at...

And then there was an e-mail at 10weeks...

"We're 10 weeks 2 days today and heard the heartbeat for the first time (we had seen it on the ultrasound before but never have heard it before). No one at work knows yet so we confiscated the doppler machine (a little hand held machine that can detect the heartbeat and amplifies it) and drove down to a quite cul-de-sac looking out over the ocean and heard the heartbeat for the first time. It was magical!

Attached is the audio file from the recording we made. It's still pretty quiet, you have to listen carefully but if you do you'll hear it beating along in the background at 160 beats a minute.

Enjoy!" (unfortunately the audio file is in a format that won't upload to the blog page)

And now we're at 12 weeks and here's the e-mail I sent yesterday...

"Hi Again!

We had our first OB appointment today and were excited to have an ultrasound done on a fancy new machine that gives much better quality images. We were pleased to see that we are in fact pregnant with a human and not just a tadpole or alien being. Everything looked just like it's supposed to at this stage (12weeks or about 3months). I've attached a few of the images and will try to send a video or two in a separate e-mail.

With Love,

Christy and Stephen"

Look! (S)he looks like a little person! And measures 64mm from head to rump (Tammy, that's 2 1/2 inches)

Here's a good shot of his/her legs... so from head to toe Bean is about 3 1/2 inches long!

And here are two video files of Bean moving around, the first one shows a good view of his/her heart beating away at 165 beats per minute....

The second one you can get a good view of his/her arm stretched out up by his/her head...

No plans for any more ultrasounds until around 20weeks. We'll keep you updated!

Love, Christy and Stephen

Great idea Christy and Stephen. I especially love that you "borrowed" a doppler to hear the baby's heartbeat while sitting at the beach.

Yeah! Love the blog- esp. the videos! You're so lucky you can just ultrasound any old time you want. Just like Tom Cruise. Only less weird.
