It's been awhile since I've written about what Ian is up to as far as his development. Well, he's developing quite a personality. He has realized that it's fun to joke around and make other people smile and laugh. He loves to play "tickle" which involves touching someone with his pointed index finger (which results in a huge dramatic giggle and wiggle from those who understand the game). He also loves hiding and being "found.". In the mornings he close himself into my closet and the peek his head out, giggling with delight. In the evenings he'll bury himself under a pillow and then jump out to be found. Perhaps the cutest thing he's doing these days is what I call his "little old man walk" which involves walking around all hunched over with his legs bent - kinds like he's ducking under something or walking in a cave. It's a riot! I have got to get it on film (an outdated phrase I realize).
Although he's goofy at home, he is pretty quiet around other people and has become quite attached to Stephen and I. This surprises me a bit since he has been out and with other people so much since he was born but I also realize it's a normal developmental phase and he may also just be a little shy.
He's starting to talk and has more words than I can count. Some are vague approximations of the real thing (like "now-ER" is peanut butter and "DEEK" is stick) but he's consistent so I am starting to understand more and more. The other morning Stephen was among him what he wanted for breakfast and he kept making the same sounds "now-ER! now-ER!" I came in and said "oh! He wants peanut butter (his all-time favorite food, with bananas taking a close second) and felt triumphant having understood him.
He is also getting a lot faster. I still can catch him without too much of an effort but it's not going to be all that long until I'm having to sprint to catch up with him, especially if he gets much of a head start.
He sleeps from about 7:30pm to 6:00-6:30am most nights and is also taking these killer 2-3 hour naps each afternoon. It's awesome! I love to sleep and am hoping he got that from me! He seems to be a morning person... I get up with him most mornings and we enjoy breakfast and a walk on the beach before waking up daddy. It's my favorite time of the day (well, let's say, 85% of the time I LOVE it, the other 15% I'm wishing he would just let me go back to sleep for awhile longer;) and gives me a chance to have some quality time with him before heading off to work.
He is an amazing kid who has my heart bursting with so incredibly much love I can honestly say it aches at times. We are so blessed!
